So Sad to have only learned yesterday of your passing Julian. Everything I know about wine and my love of it, is because of you and your dad and all those happy days in Ilkley. I remember one time when I bet you the last bottle of a certain wine that you had in the shop, over some politcal election result, and when I lost the bet, I duly paid for the wine, but you imediately opened it and we shared it together right there and then in the shop. Great days. Sleep well my old friend and be assured Ruth and I, the same as many other people, will remember you with love, gratitude, and respect for the precious friend that you were.

I have heard the saddest news; Julian was a dear friend. I can't believe he is no longer with us, but heaven has gained a true workhorse; he will continue enjoying wine in the clouds with all the angles no doubt !!
Cheers to Julian !! we shall miss you but perhaps you are in a safer sunnier place than we are? You are hopefully in the arms of the angels and the sky is blue and the sun is warm on your face. God bless you Julian; always........x

I knew Julian 20 or so years ago when he went out with my sister. He was quite wild in those days but he had a charm about him which meant you couldn't help but like him. My sister kept in touch with him on and off over the years and it was always nice to know how he was doing.
I was extremely shocked when I heard the news. Our loss is heaven's gain. Thanks for being part of the memories of my youth Julian. I will catch up with you in the next life.

Just heard the very sad news this evening. Julian was an inspiration to many - he taught me and many friends how to enjoy wine, how to try something new which never failed to become a firm favourite. His laughter was fantastic, so infectious. We are still drinking wine today laid down with Julian's recommendations. Will open a bottle this weekend and raise a glass in his honour.
